What Is an Independent Connection Provider (ICP)?
An Independent Connection Provider is an accredited company authorised to carry out the contestable parts of a new utility connection, instead of you waiting for the regional network operator to do the work. Air Utilities is an accredited ICP. This is a genuine choice many developers and homeowners do not realise they have. In most cases the ICP route gives you better programme control, more design input and greater cost certainty than going direct to the network operator.
ICP vs DNO, What Is the Difference?
A DNO (Distribution Network Operator) owns and operates the regional electricity network and is responsible for the non-contestable works, such as final energisation and any off-site reinforcement. An ICP is an independent, accredited contractor that carries out the contestable works, the on-site cabling, substation build and infrastructure, usually faster and on a fixed-price contract. You are not obliged to use only your DNO for the contestable work. You can appoint an accredited ICP such as Air Utilities instead.

Because energisation and off-site reinforcement stay with the network operator, we apply for these early and run them in parallel with our own works, so they do not hold your programme up at the end.

We submit the design for approval and apply for the non-contestable works early, so they run in parallel rather than delaying the end of the job.

Our accredited teams carry out the contestable works, the cabling, pipework, substation and service connections, to programme.
